Motivation Monday - Time to Re-evaluate and Re-Commit

Posted by Unknown on Sunday, May 8, 2011

How is everyone doing with their spring commitments? Is it time to re-evaluate and re-commit?

Would anyone out there like to lose 25-50 pounds before Thanksgiving arrives? It's totally doable if you were to lose the recommended max of 1-2 pounds per week.

It kills me every year to see people dieting and watching their weight over the holidays when if we just make effort the rest of the year we can indulge and enjoy without worry when the holidays come along. It goes the same for day to day living...

I keep things under control now because I eat very clean healthy foods 90% of the time. I graze on a handful or very small servings at a time instead of always sitting down to a meal. I generally eat just enough to satisfy my hunger whether it's healthy food I'm eating or not - and yes, I wait until I am actually hungry before I eat, not just because the clock says it's time. Many of our eating habits come from programing. We can change that programing with a little work. Eat slowly and pay close attention. Feeling full isn't the same as not being hungry anymore.

Moving is a big one too. We have to get up and move to keep our metabolisms running. Don't complain if you have too far to walk from the parking lot, embrace it as extra exercise. In fact, park as far away as you can. We all know this but how many live it?

I'm sure we've all seen this ironic example of fitness in America!

If those people would use the steps they wouldn't need to be paying for a fitness center to begin with!

Don't have time to exercise? I sure know how that is! But we can all make time to squeeze in a little bit if we try. Even 5 minutes of exercise better than none but we have to make those 5 minutes really count - do it with gusto! Take a brisk interval walk around the block, do 100 crunches, grab some hand weights and do a couple of sets. Do something - anything!

We can follow the best programs, spend all kinds of money on equipment, gyms, Weight Watcher's programs or a million other things. Most out there are good things that will really work if we stick with it. Just remember one important fact - 90% of failure comes from quitting, not because what we are doing doesn't work.

Let's all think about these things and think about what we need to do to change some of our habits. I know it's a cliche but we really do have to make lifestyle changes to really make a difference in the long run otherwise we'll be right back in the same boat as soon as we go back to our old ways.

Wishing you a Motivated Monday!
